New Years Eve Celebration
So far our chosen dates mean we'll be in Japan for New Years Eve. So, I thought I'd look to see what to do for this night, and found these: Photo by Junko Kimura / Getty Images Place: Zojoji Temple 4-7-35 Shibakoen Minato-ku, Tokyo Access: Tokyo Subway Shibakoen or Onarimon Stations Event: Visitors fly about 3,000 baloons, praying happiness and peace. Time: 20:30 handing out of papers for writing wishes 22:30 handing out of baloons 23:30 New Year's Eve ceremony 23:59 Countdown for the new year Meiji Jingu Shrine ![]() Apparently the majority of people celebrate NYE at a temple or shrine, it is a very sentimental time of year. Alot of references on the internet keep talking about this place which is near/in Shinjuku. "At midnight, the Watch-night Bells are struck 108 times, and many people come during this time, welcoming the New Year with the sound of bells warding off the 108 worldly desires." ref: http://newyearseve.com/stories-new-years-eve-in-tokyo-fyi.php |
